LONDON, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Children in Britain's poor neighborhoods may be bused to wealthier suburbs under a government plan to give their parents more school choices.

But the plan has angered some parents who say the government should concentrate on reducing class sizes and improving standards in their neighborhood schools, the Independent reports.

"We want to see how we can get parents living on the council estates to be able to exercise choice in as powerful a way as those from more privileged backgrounds currently do," said British Education Secretary Ruth Kelly.

The plan may include providing transport subsidies to those who cannot afford to send their children to better performing schools.
