BEIRUT, Lebanon, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Two Israeli surveillance planes violated Lebanese air space Tuesday for 50 minutes, a Lebanese army statement said.

It said the planes entered Lebanese skies from over the Mediterranean Sea and flew over northern Lebanon.

Lebanon contends that Israel has been violating Lebanon's sovereignty frequently since it pulled out from south Lebanon in May 2000. Its planes sometimes draw anti-aircraft fire from Lebanese army and Hezbollah gunners in south Lebanon.

Lebanon repeatedly calls on the United Nations to press Israel to stop such violations.
