Prosecutor says Croatia now cooperating

LUXEMBOURG, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- U.N. war crimes prosecutor Carla Del Ponte has told the European Union that Croatia was fully cooperating with the war crimes tribunal.

The BBC reported Tuesday that may open the way for the country to be considered for EU membership.

Del Ponte told EU foreign ministers meeting in Luxembourg that she believes Croatia's change of attitude will lead to the capture of Gen. Ante Gotovina. He is charged with atrocities against Serbian civilians in Croatia in 1995.

"If Croatia continues to work with the same resolve and intensity, I am confident that he can be transferred to The Hague soon," she said.
