PARIS, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- The son of Lebanon's former prime minister, who was killed by a bomb blast in February, has said certain parties planned to assassinate him as well.

Saad Hariri, a member of parliament who inherited his father's political career, was quoted Tuesday by Saudi daily newspaper al-Hayat as saying, "We received solid information that certain groups tried to assassinate me, and some suspects have been arrested."

The younger Hariri told the paper that he was advised by foreign parties to stay outside Lebanon due to real threats to his life.

Hariri, who lives in Paris, blasted President Emile Lahoud, saying "he lacked legitimacy" since his mandate was extended for three years in September 2004 at Syria's behest and under threats.

Rafik Hariri was killed in a massive blast in Beirut Feb. 14. An international team probing his assassination is expected to present its report later this month.
