WASHINGTON, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army says there's insufficient evidence to prosecute soldiers who shared grisly war photographs from Iraq and Afghanistan with a pornography Web site.
Pentagon and Army officials said there is little evidence to authenticate the photographs of dead and mutilated bodies, and few ways to pursue a criminal investigation.
The Web site's Florida creator told The Washington Post about 30,000 members of the military are registered on his site, and the photographs are in exchange for access to the pornography.
"It's an uncensored view of the war, from their perspective," said Chris Wilson, 27. "It's a place where the soldiers can express themselves without being filtered by the Bush administration," he added.
Army spokesman Paul Boyce said investigators have been examining the photos for clues to their origin, and said commanders in the field are emphasizing that taking and posting such photos is unacceptable.
