RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Saudi authorities Wednesday executed a Yemeni national and a Saudi after they were convicted of raping and killing a Saudi woman.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement that the Yemeni Bilal Ali Ahmed and Nasser bin Mohammed Hazazi were beheaded with a sword after a court convicted them of killing and rape.
It said the men were drunk when they kidnapped a woman on a Riyadh street and took her to an isolated area where they raped and killed her and robbed her of jewelry and money.
The double executions bring to 66 those put to death in the Arab kingdom since the beginning of the year, while 35 were executed last year.
Saudi Arabia, which says it applies strict Islamic laws, imposes the death penalty on convicted murderers, rapists, armed robbers, repeated drug traffickers and Muslims who renounce their religion.
