Letter bomb injures British Embassy worker

ZAGREB, Croatia, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- A suspected letter bomb exploded Monday morning in the mail room of the British Embassy in Zagreb, Croatia, slightly injuring one embassy employee.

A spokesman for the British Foreign Office said he was unaware of any threats to the embassy but that security at the building had been increased, the BBC reported.

Police are investigating the blast, which came after several embassies in Zagreb received threatening letters this year.

Ill feeling among Croatians toward the West has been inflamed by a delay in talks over joining the European Union.

The EU postponed entry talks with Croatia in March over the country's failure to cooperate fully with the United Nations war crimes tribunal.

The Foreign Office did not say if the injured person was British or Croatian, but confirmed that the person was a staff member.
