TORONTO, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Canadians want their government to stand up to the United States.

That's the finding of a new poll for the Toronto Globe Mail. A large majority of respondents, 76 percent, said Canada is not tough enough with the United States in trade negotiations. Only 3 percent believe Canada is too tough, and 13 percent say it's striking the right balance.

"It appears that Canadians are more truculent in foreign affairs than are our leaders," said Allan Gregg, president of The Strategic Counsel, which conducted the poll.
