COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Two employees and two customers at an Idaho restaurant split a $100,000 reward Thursday for helping to save Shasta Groene from her alleged kidnapper.
The four also received Heroes Awards from the U.S. Justice Department, KREM.com reported.
Joseph Duncan, who has been charged with killing Shasta's family to abduct her and her brother, was arrested that night. He has been charged with murder and kidnapping.
"All four decided Duncan would not leave the restaurant that night with Shasta," FBI Special Agent in Charge Tim Fuhrman said during the presentation.
The four who were honored were Amber Deahn, a waitress at the Denny's restaurant in Coeur d'Alene, restaurant manager Linda Olson and Nicholas Chapman and Chris Donlan, who were sitting in a booth when Duncan and Shasta arrived.
The four worked together. Chapman and Donlan went outside to smoke -- and also to write down the license plate number of Duncan's Jeep Cherokee.
Deahn, in a ploy to keep Duncan in the restaurant, offered Shasta a special treat and then made her a large vanilla milkshake.
