Indonesia: Bomb planner gets death penalty

JAKARTA, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- The man convicted of organizing a suicide attack on Australia's embassy in Jakarta was defiant as an Indonesian court imposed the death sentence.

Iwan Darwaman, also known as Rois, smiled and hugged his lawyers after learning he will be executed by firing squad, The Age reported.

Rois confessed to police that he recruited a 17-year-old suicide bomber and said he was sorry that 11 Indonesians died in the attack. But he later retracted his confession.

He said that he rejected the conviction and warned that Australia must learn not to injure Muslims.

"For sure there will be revenge," he said.
