'Kamikaze tourist' seek dangerous spots

TOKYO, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Some of the world's war zones are becoming tourist attractions for Japanese tourists dubbed the "kamikaze tourists."

However, the safety of these tourists is a worry to Japan's overseas embassies -- a real fear, as the discovery last week of bullet-ridden bodies of two Japanese tourists in Afghanistan attests, reported the Sunday Telegraph.

Jun Fukusho, 44, and his female traveling companion Shinobu Hasegawa, 30, were killed after they took a taxi into the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar, Afghanistan -- a place even aid workers only venture with armed guards.

Some theorize that after 60 years without war, unparalleled levels of prosperity and low crime levels, many Japanese do not appreciate the dangers in other parts of the world.

Two Japanese airlines recently began screening 30-minute videos on international flights, advising passengers on personal safety while traveling.
