Man confesses to sex-offender killings

BELLINGHAM, Wash., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Prosecutors are scratching their heads after a man confessed to killing two sex offenders in Washington state because of their past crimes.

Police in Bellingham, Wash., said Michael A. Mullen confessed to the Aug. 27 killings and is now demanding a quick trial, the Seattle Times reports.

They say Mullen's motivation for the killings was the highly publicized July rape-murder in Idaho in which convicted sex offender Joseph Edward Duncan III allegedly captured and killed most of a family.

Police say the 35-year-old Mullen was emotionally effected by that crime which led him to act as an FBI agent when he visited 68-year-old Victor Vazquez and 49-year-old Hank Eisses and allegedly shot them in the head.

Mullen has a criminal record but no violent crimes.

He turned himself into police on Monday.

Police say they aren't sure why Mullen allegedly committed the crime, why he has confessed and why he's urging a judge for a quick trial without a lawyer.
