GAZA, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos Tuesday projected a flurry of international contacts to boost Middle East peace efforts.
"A new phase has started which will witness many contacts between Europe and Middle Eastern countries, as well as meeting in Washington to step up efforts for achieving peace in the Middle East," Moratinos said at a news conference with Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia in Gaza.
Referring to Israel's withdrawal from Gaza Strip and settlements in north of the West Bank, Moratinos said, "A few matters are still pending but we will work on solving them quickly, especially regarding crossings, passages and borders."
Moratinos, a former EU envoy to the peace process, expressed hope for the establishment of an independent, free and sovereign Palestinian state with relations with the European Union.
