Iran leader urges Palestinians to resist

TEHRAN, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Iran's supreme spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Saturday urged the Palestinians to continue with their jihad and resistance against Israel.

The official Islamic Republic News Agency said Khamenei made his call during a meeting in Tehran with a delegation of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement and its leader, Ramadan Shallah.

IRNA said Khamenei praised the "victory of the Palestinian people and resistance in pushing out the Zionist entity from the Gaza Strip, which proves the only way to confront the Zionist enemy is by continuing and strengthening the road of jihad and resistance."

The Shiite leader said the Palestinian resistance can succeed further by pushing the Israeli occupation out of the Palestinian territories, "through relying on the brave young Palestinian men to cooperate with the jihadist groups."

He insisted the "enemies' losses in Lebanon and Iraq, as well as in the political confrontation with Iran, means the enemy is not as strong as claimed and has many gaps."
