EAST FARMINGDALE, N.Y., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Authorities were investigating the death of an 18-year-old New York youth fatally injured when he fell on the track of an amusement park ride.
Stephen Gary had operated the Lady Bug Coaster at Adventureland in East Farmingdale, N.Y., since June, spending summer days watching its red-and-black polka-dotted cars carry screaming children around the tracks.
Shortly before closing time Tuesday Gary slipped on the tracks and landed face down, with the first car in a connected line of about a dozen stopping just over his back, Newsday reported Thursday.
He died of massive internal injuries and a shattered pelvis six hours later.
Homicide Squad Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick said it was not known why or how Gary ended up on the tracks or why he was unable to move out of the cars' path. An autopsy was planned.
