HARTFORD, Conn., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Connecticut prosecutors are trying to file a new ethics violation charge against jailed former Gov. John Rowland, the Hartford Courant reported Tuesday.
Sources told the newspaper that Chief State's Attorney Christopher Morano has requested a warrant and that the application is awaiting consideration by a Hartford Superior Court judge.
Rowland, a Republican now serving a year-and-a-day sentence at a federal prison camp in Pennsylvania, resigned July 1, 2004, after pleading guilty to a single federal conspiracy charge that arose from his receiving $107,000 in gifts and services from businessmen who won hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts and tax breaks from his administration.
The latest incident involves allegations Rowland violated the state's "revolving door" legislation that bans former state officials from approaching their former offices in a private capacity for one year. Prosecutors allege Rowland approached a former budget adviser in his role as a consultant six months after stepping down.
