JERUSALEM, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Israeli police arrested a 14-year-old Palestinian who allegedly tried to smuggle three pipe bombs through a checkpoint near Nablus Monday.
The Jerusalem Post reports that the teen was turned over to the Shin Bet for questioning after he set off a metal detector as he went through the Hawara checkpoint.
The bombs, concealed in a bag, were detonated by border guards. They were described as pipes packed with explosive, glass balls and shrapnel and designed to be set off by a friction detonator.
In recent weeks, a 14-year-old carrying two pipe bombs strapped to a belt and a 15-year-old with bombs hidden in a bag have been arrested at the checkpoint, which security officials say is known as an entrance point for bombers.
