Israeli Muslim says mosques guarded

TEL AVIV, Israel, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- An Islamic leader in Israel said guards will be placed on mosques and religious sites in several cities.

Sheikh Raed Salah, head of the Islamic Movement's northern branch, also said attacks on mosques could bring on an Islamic uprising in the country, the newspaper Ha'aretz reported. Salah spoke at a rally at the Hassan Bek Mosque in Tel Aviv where a man threw a pig's head into the building last week labeled as the Prophet Mohammed.

The Israeli security force Shin Bet announced Friday a man and woman have been charged with throwing the pig's head. They allegedly told investigators they hoped to stop or slow down the Israeli pullout from Gaza by instigating a Muslim riot.
