MONTREAL, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- The Supreme Court of Canada will hear a challenge to the government's security law allowing non-citizens to be detained indefinitely without charge.

The challenge was brought by Adil Charkaoui, a Montreal resident who was detained for 21 months on allegations that he was a sleeper agent for the al-Qaida terrorist network.

Charkaoui was released on $50,000 bail in February and is fighting deportation to his Moroccan homeland, the CBC said.
