LONDON, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- The Former Northern Ireland secretary of state, Mo Mowlam, has died from a brain tumor, The Guardian reports.
The 55-year-old's death Friday after a bout with recurring brain cancer drew praise for her achievements from across the British political aisle and across the country.

Mowlam's Labor Party colleagues such as Prime Minister Tony Blair and Lord Neil Kinnock were joined by conservatives Michael Howard and Charles Kennedy in praising her for her work in British government.
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton remembered Mowlam for her role in the peace process between Britain and the Irish Republican Army.
Mowlam died just weeks after the IRA pledged to stop violence.
