Democratic Senate leader in Las Vegas hospital

LAS VEGAS, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- The office of Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., announced the Senate minority leader has suffered a small stroke.

The New York Times reports Reid suffered a transient ischemic attack Tuesday and is now in a Las Vegas hospital seeking treatment to determine the extent of the stroke risk.

The incident happened in the 65-year-old's hometown of Searchlight, Nev., where he is spending the congressional recess.

He became lightheaded and went to the Las Vegas hospital.

A spokeswoman declined to give any more details about his treatment.

Reid has served in the Senate since his 1986 election and was named Democratic leader in 2004.
