Police have not identified him yet and say the case is not related to the investigation into the July 7 bombings in London that killed more than 50 people or the failed bombing attempt on July 21.
Police say a house in Bradford, West Yorkshire, was raided and a device they believe to be a World War II mortar shell was recovered.
The man was arrested for "suspicion of possessing property for the purpose of terrorism."
