Bird flu spreads in Russia

MOSCOW, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Russia's Agriculture Ministry says bird flu has spread and killed some 113,000 birds, the news agency Novosti reported Wednesday.

In the particularly hard-hit Novosibirsk region, some 70,000 birds have been killed and bird flu was confirmed in 15 settlements.

The government agency said bird flu had been confirmed in 35 populated areas of Russia and was suspected in 69 others.
