Sri Lanka rebel group denies assassination

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- The Tamil Tiger rebel group in Sri Lanka has denied it was involved in the assassination of the country's foreign minister.

Laskshman Kadirgamar died after being shot in the capital Colombo Friday, the BBC reports.

A Tamil Tiger spokesperson denied the group's involvement and criticized the government for blaming the rebels.

Norwegian officials have been monitoring a 2002 cease fire between the group and the government and say the truce may now be at risk.
