VIENNA, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Iran can soon expect a visit from a U.N. nuclear watchdog team, says Mohamed ElBaradei, director general of International Atomic Energy Agency.
"We have a team going to Iran tomorrow to discuss remaining outstanding issues that have to do with safeguards, contamination, and the extent of their enrichment program. So, we are confident that we will continue to make progress," Mohamed said at a news conference in Vienna.
He announced the trip following a resolution adapted by the agency's board calling for Iran to reverse its decision to resume activities at its uranium conversion facility.
Last year, Iran voluntarily suspended uranium-enrichment activities after negotiating with France, Germany and Britain.
Enriched uranium can be used for generating energy and Iran said its uranium activities are for that purpose: energy production. Many countries, including the United States, said the activity is aimed at producing nuclear weapons.
