Palestinians to get Gaza greenhouses

GAZA, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- A foundation plans to spend $14 million buying greenhouses from Jewish settlers in the Gaza Strip to give them to the Palestinian Authority.

Yossi Beilin, a former member of the Israeli Knesset, told CNN that James Wolfensohn, former president of the World Bank, raised the money for the Economic Cooperation Foundation. Wolfensohn, a special envoy for the International Quartet, also contributed $500,000.

The pullout has split Israel. In three days, the government plans to inform settlers in the Gaza Strip and four small settlements on the West Bank they must leave.

This week, the government barred non-residents without official business from Gaza to stop supporters of settlers who oppose the pullout from entering.
