No evidence of Arafat poisoning

GAZA, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- A spokesman for the Palestinian government Tuesday denied that there is evidence Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat died from poisoning.

Samir Halila, secretary-general of the Palestinian Cabinet, said in a statement "the official medical report on the causes of the death has not been completed or relayed to the Palestinian Authority but we expect it in a few weeks."

Halila stressed, however, that the probability of poisoning was still valid but not ascertained yet pending the results of the medical report which is being prepared by a special probing committee.

Palestinian groups accused Israel of having poisoned Arafat who died in a Paris hospital last Nov. 11.
