Gunmen occupy public buildings in Gaza

GAZA, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Gunmen occupied the Palestine Legislative Council and ministry of prisoners' affairs buildings in Rafah, south of Gaza Tuesday, official sources said.

The sources said the gunmen are former prisoners who raided the public buildings with light arms to protest what they said was the government's reluctance to give them jobs after they were released from Israeli prisons.

The protesters did not take hostages, but called on the Palestinian Authority to secure them with jobs.

In another development, a Palestinian was killed and four others injured early Tuesday in the explosion in Khan Younis in what witnesses said was "a locally made shell." Police said they were investigating the incident.
