BTK's wife wins emergency divorce

WICHITA, Kan., July 27 (UPI) -- The wife of confessed BTK serial killer Dennis Rader has been granted an emergency divorce to end the Park City, Kan., couple's 34-year marriage.

Paula Rader filed for the emergency divorce Tuesday in Wichita, Kan., citing emotional stress. Sedgwick County District Judge Eric Yost waived the usual 60-day waiting period and approved the divorce immediately.

Rader, who is in jailed awaiting an Aug. 17 sentencing hearing in the 10 "bind, torture and kill" slayings, signed papers stating he did not contest the divorce, the Wichita (Kan.) Eagle reported.

Rader -- a father of two, Boy Scout leader and church official -- is accused of starting his sexual fantasy-fueled killing spree three years after the couple married.

The divorce decree gives Paula Rader title to the couple's home, which was auctioned for $90,000 earlier this month.

However, a separate court order requires the money be held until a judge decides whether it should go to families of BTK victims, who filed wrongful death lawsuits.
