GAZA, July 26 (UPI) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia stressed Tuesday legislative elections will take place in the shortest possible time in line with democratic norms.
"Holding the elections and ensuring the participation of all in political decision making according to democratic norms is a strategic choice for achieving national unity on the basis of respecting political plurality," Qureia told a meeting of locally elected committees in the city of Bireh in the West Bank.
"I reaffirm our commitment to hold the elections in the shortest possible time after the ratification of the new election law by parliament," he said, adding the date will be fixed in coordination with all groups.
Qureia welcomed the participation of all groups in the upcoming elections stressing it will "open the way for rebuilding the Palestinian political system."
