Small bomb blast in Cairo injures man

CAIRO, July 24 (UPI) -- Egyptian security sources said Sunday one man was injured when a small bomb apparently exploded in southern Cairo.

A security official told United Press International the bomb blew up as Sami Ahmad, 33, was entering his home.

He said, however, it was not known whether Ahmad, a medic in a state hospital in Cairo, was carrying the bomb or the device was in his house the moment it blew up.

The official said the man was seriously injured and rushed to hospital for treatment.

Sunday's incident came less than two days after three powerful explosions rocked the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheik, killing 88 and injuring 200 others, including Egyptians and tourists.

Security sources said the authorities have arrested 90 people in connection with the Sharm el-Sheik blasts. Responsibility for the bombings was claimed on an Islamic Web site by a group calling itself "al-Qaida in Bilad al-Sham and Kinana."
