Tropical Storm Franklin still a little guy

MIAMI, July 23 (UPI) -- The center of Tropical Storm Franklin was in between Bermuda and the Bahamas late Saturday, about 295 miles northeast of Great Abaco Island.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami said the storm, while still short of a hurricane, had picked up strength during the day with sustained winds of nearly 70 mph. Forecasters said it could become a hurricane by Sunday.

The storm was moving east-northeast at about 9 mph.

Franklin is the sixth named storm in what is shaping up to be a busy hurricane season, although it is falling far short of its immediate predecessors, Dennis and Emily.
