Priest indicted for child rape, battery

CINCINNATI, July 14 (UPI) -- A Cincinnati priest has been indicted on six counts of rape and sexual battery of a child.

The Rev. Raymond Larger, a well-known priest who pastored St. James in White Oak and Our Lady of Visitation, surrendered to police after he was indicted by a grand jury Thursday.

The alleged incidents, said to involve a man now 21 years old, occurred during the years 1995-1997, Joe Deters, the Hamilton County prosecutor told WCPO-TV.

Deters said the case came to light when the alleged victim applied for the church's victims' compensation fund. Apparently, the three-person tribunal didn't believe him but after an investigation Deters took the matter to a grand jury.

Larger was put on administrative leave in August 2003 for nine months after he was arrested and convicted of exposing himself in a Dayton, Ohio, park.

The archbishop assigned him to St. Peter in Chains Cathedral in downtown Cincinnati, where he said mass as recently as Wednesday.
