Lula: Brazil doesn't deserve crisis

RIO DE JANEIRO, July 14 (UPI) -- Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said Thursday Brazil "does not deserve" to go through the ongoing corruption scandal dogging him.

"Brazil does not deserve everything that is happening," said Lula during a state visit to France. "It deserves much better."

A federal lawmaker has accused the Lula administration of bribing federal lawmakers to get their votes on key congressional votes.

Though the president and his ruling Workers' Party have denied the accusations, four of Lula's key leaders have resigned due to the allegations.

Despite the ongoing investigation, a poll released this month reported that approval for the Lula administration increased from May to July.
