ORLANDO, Fla., July 13 (UPI) -- A teenage girl from England was in critical condition Wednesday after suffering a heart attack on a ride at Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando, Fla.
Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Jim Solomons said Leanne Deacon, 16, of Kibworth, England, came off the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride Tuesday morning trembling and light-headed. Soon after, she collapsed, and by the time she arrived at Florida Hospital Celebration Health by ambulance, her heart had stopped beating, Solomons said.
She was resuscitated and rushed into surgery, and then later transferred by helicopter to Florida Hospital Orlando late Tuesday for specialized treatment, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
Disney officials ordered the ride closed, and state inspectors were summoned, although there was no evidence the ride had malfunctioned.
The ride simulates 5 minutes in an elevator gone haywire, shooting up and down 13 stories.
The incident comes less than a month after a 4-year-old Pennsylvania boy collapsed on Epcot's Mission: Space ride June 13. He later died.
