TEL AVIV, Israel, July 12 (UPI) -- The Israeli Army warned Monday it would not be "a home to soldiers and officers" who are choosy about their tasks.
The warning, in a letter to the troops written by Military Chief of General Staff, Lt. Gen. Dan Halutz, was issued amid concerns about possible disobedience during Israel's withdrawal from Gaza and the evacuation of four Jewish settlements in the northern West Bank.
"Under no circumstances may we refuse to obey an order," Halutz wrote. "The army will not be forgiving, compromising or ambiguous with all that concerns the duty to obey.... The Israel Defense Forces will not be a home to soldiers and officers whose allegiance to the tasks is conditional."
He criticized rabbis who advocated disobedience. There is an attempt to portray religious soldiers as potential objectors and a lot of that is due to "those irresponsible elements," Halutz indicated.
