FBI Investigating attack on Indiana mosque

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., July 9 (UPI) -- The FBI is investigating an attack on an Indiana mosque as a possible hate crime.

Law enforcement officials said the Islamic Center of Bloomington was set on fire Friday night, but the blaze was extinguished before any major damage was done.

No arrests have been made and the FBI and Bloomington police are working to find the culprits, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an American-Muslim civil liberties group, said Saturday.

CAIR Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper thanked federal and local law enforcement for what he called "their swift and professional response."

He says he hopes the alleged attack was not in response to the recent bombings in London. CAIR officials said they are also investigating the vandalizing of a prayer area for Muslims in a Houston medical center Friday.
