Victim's family sues BTK serial killer

WICHITA, Kan., July 8 (UPI) -- A second family of a victim of Kansas' BTK serial killer has filed suit seeking to ensure the confessed killer never benefits monetarily for his crimes.

A lawyer for the relatives of Vicki Wegerle filed suit Thursday, the Wichita Eagle reported. It was the second such suit filed, joining action taken by the daughter of BTK victim Marine Hedge.

The newspaper said additional lawsuits are expected to be filed before Dennis Rader is sentenced Aug. 17. Rader has admitted to killing 10 people over a three-decade period. He called himself BTK -- bind, torture, kill -- for what he did to victims.

Jim Thompson, a lawyer for Wegerle's family, told the Eagle, "We want to keep him from ever profiting from his crimes."

The suits want the court to attach a judgment to any funds given Rader for the sale of his story.
