Bush condemns London blasts

AUCHTERARDER, Scotland, July 7 (UPI) -- U.S. President Bush Thursday expressed his condolences over the series of blasts that rocked London's transit system, killing or injuring scores of people.

Bush said the attacks contrast sharply with what the Group of Eight is trying to accomplish at its meeting in Scotland and condemned "those who have such evil in their hearts that they take the lives of innocent folks. That's what the war on terrorism is about. We will not yield to the terrorists. We will bring them to justice."

Bush said he wanted to express his "heartfelt condolences to London, to the people who lost their lives."

Bush said he appreciates Prime Minister Tony Blair's determination and strength.

Bush called on those at home to be on alert.

"I have instructed Homeland Security to be in touch with state and local officials about the facts and to be extra vigilant," Bush said.
