COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho, July 6 (UPI) -- An 8-year-old Idaho girl, abducted with her brother, told investigators of the day they were taken as other family members were tied and beaten to death.

Shasta Groene told investigators she saw Joseph Duncan tie up members of her family in their Coeur D'Alene home May 16, the day her mother, Brenda Groene, 40, a brother, Slade, 13, and their mother's boyfriend, Mark McKenzie, 37, were bound and bludgeoned to death.

Shasta and her 9-year-old brother, Dylan, were abducted, and she said in the ensuing days, Duncan, whom she had never before seen, sexually abused both of them.

Dylan has not been found, but investigators fear human remains found Monday in western Montana may be his, CNN said.

The police report did not indicate if the girl witnessed the killings, but it marks the first time anyone has put Duncan at the scene.

Tuesday, 42-year-old Duncan was charged with two counts of first-degree kidnapping, which carry a potential for the death penalty or life in prison.
