RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, July 5 (UPI) -- Forty-nine people were killed or injured in two major car accidents in western Saudi Arabia, reports said Tuesday.
The Daily al-Yom said the two accidents occurred on a road under construction between Medina and Tabouk.

In the first accident a head-on collision between a car and a van resulted in the death of nine people. The high-speed collision triggered a fire. Only one person survived and was reported in very critical condition.
The second accidents occurred a few yards from the first and involved a bus and a truck carrying cement pipes. Five people were killed, including a Bengal national and four Egyptians, among them a 5-month-old baby. Also 29 Egyptians in the bus were injured.
