COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho, July 4 (UPI) -- Investigators searching for 9-year-old Dylan Groene found human remains Monday in western Montana, CNN reported.

The boy and his 8-year-old sister, Shasta, disappeared in May, and the bodies of their mother, brother and step-father were found at the family's home in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Shasta was found early Saturday at a Denny's restaurant in the company of Joseph Edward Duncan, a convicted sex offender.

Kootenai County Sheriff Rocky Watson said the remains will be sent to the FBI lab in Quantico, Va., for DNA analysis.

Earlier Monday, Ben Wolfinger, a captain in the sheriff's department, said Shasta had given information that helped investigators trace at least some of Duncan's route during the six weeks she was missing, CNN reported. Duncan apparently traveled with the two children between eastern Washington across Idaho to western Montana in an area about 100 miles wide.

Duncan was using a Jeep reported stolen in Minnesota with plates reported stolen in Missouri.
