New blood expected in Egypt official press

CAIRO, July 4 (UPI) -- An overall reshuffling of administration and editorial councils is expected to take place Monday in government-owned publications, officials said.

The imminent changes were pressed by Egyptian journalists who have been protesting against their aging directors and editors-in-chief who exceeded the age of retirement a long time ago.

The head of the Shura Council, Safwat Sherif, a former information minister, said the council is due to meet Monday to approve replacements and administrative changes.

Cairo's mass-circulation daily al-Ahram said the director of its board and editor in chief Ibrahim Nafeh, who occupied the double post for more than 20 years, is expected to be replaced.

It said Salah Ghomry, the director general of the National Co. for Distribution, is expected to be named al-Ahram's director, and Osama Saraya, as the paper's editor-in-chief.

The directors of the government's two other newspapers, al-Akhbar and al-Gumhouriya, will also be changed under the reshuffle move.
