Jailed Iran journalist said deteriorating

TEHRAN, July 4 (UPI) -- An Iranian opposition party Monday sounded the alarm over the deteriorating health condition of an imprisoned journalist observing a hunger strike.

The Front for Sharing in Islamic Iran said in a statement that journalist Akbar Khanji "is suffering from tremendous weakness and his health condition is deteriorating alarmingly."

The statement called on Khanji to end his hunger strike promising to do its utmost to secure his release, the Iranian News Agency, IRNA, reported.

The opposition party said Khanji "is a prisoner of thought and principles who has spent six years in prison in an unjust way."
