LONDON, July 2 (UPI) -- A British drug dealer has been convicted of killing a trucking company owner and his entire family as part of a plan to take over the business.
Kenneth Regan faces a life sentence for the murder of Amarjit Chohan, his wife, Nancy, his two young children and his mother-in-law. An accomplice, William Horney, was convicted of the same charge while a third man was found guilty of Chohan's murder.
The trial at the Old Bailey in London was one of the longest murder trials in English history.
Prosecutors said Regan kidnapped Chohan and tortured him at a farmhouse near Salisbury to get him to sign over the business and to tape a message that enticed his family into a trap.
The bodies of the three adults washed up in the English Channel, while the children were never found. Chohan had concealed a note in his sock identifying Regan as his captor.
"Regan and his associates used subterfuge and manipulation to get what they wanted out of sheer greed," said Detective Chief Inspector David Little, who headed the investigation. "The totality of what they have done cannot be comprehended."
