Iran's nuclear program won't change

TEHRAN, June 26 (UPI) -- Iran said Sunday its nuclear program and strategy would not change with the election of new hard-line president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said Iran's "peaceful nuclear program is part of our strategy and will not change with the election of the new president."

He said the large turnout in the two rounds of the presidential elections was "strong support" for his country's foreign policy and called on the West to reconsider its "calculations towards" Iran.

Conservative Tehran Mayor Ahmadinejad swept balloting in the second round runoff with more than 17 million votes, defeating the more moderate Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
