Marlon Brando's possessions for auction

LOS ANGELES, June 24 (UPI) -- Personal effects, letters and scripts from "The Godfather" owned by Marlon Brando will be auctioned in New York's Christie's for an estimated $450,000.

Helen Bailey, the head of pop arts at Christie's, said a conservative estimate for Brando items was $400,000 to $500,000, but Marilyn Monroe's artifacts sold for more than $12 million at Christie's in 1999, after being valued at $2 million to $3 million, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

"There are two scripts from 'The Godfather,'" Bailey said. "One is un-annotated and the other is annotated with notes in the margins as he goes through the script."

Also for sale are 3,600 books from the actor's personal library, two cars, the black velvet tunic he wore in 1978's "Superman" and notes, letters and personal papers such as his California driver's license.

Elizabeth A. Bawden, the attorney for the Brando estate, said the auction proceeds would go into a trust for Brando's children.
