Islamic Jihad says it's committed to truce

GAZA, June 23 (UPI) -- Islamic Jihad said Thursday it was committed to an unofficial truce with Israel despite the Jewish state's threats to attack Palestinian militants.

The Palestinian News Agency, WAFA, quoted Jihad spokesman Khaled Batsh as saying the group is sticking to the truce despite the arrests of Jihad activists and Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom's statement Israel may launch limited raids against militants in Gaza.

"The Israeli practices constitute a violation of the truce and the threats are tantamount to an open invitation for killings," Batsh said

Batsh also called on the international community and Arab countries to intervene and take the Israeli threats against the Palestinians seriously.

Militants launched several rocket attacks this week against Israeli settlements and a female suicide bomber was intercepted by Israeli security forces.
