Terror suspects slain in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, June 21 (UPI) -- Saudi security forces killed two wanted terror suspects in a gunfight near Mecca in western Saudi Arabia, the Interior Ministry said Tuesday.

Ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Mansour Turki refrained from saying if the two suspects were linked to the slaying last week of police officer Mubarak Sawwat, who was gunned down outside his home in Mecca.

"The security forces killed the two suspects on the road between Mecca and Jeddah after they refused to stop upon police request," Turki said.

"The suspects were driving in a hijacked car from which they started firing at the policemen who chased them and killed them," he added.

The dead were not identified, but security sources said police have been searching for them on suspicion of having killed Sawwat.
