Protests, skateboards stall Philly traffic

PHILADELPHIA, June 21 (UPI) -- Drivers in Philadelphia had trouble getting around town Tuesday because of a combination of biotechnology protestors and skateboarders.

Both groups were heading for Love Park, a plaza across from City Hall named for a sculpture of the word "Love," KYW-AM radio reports.

The protestors were drawn to the city by BIO 2005, an industry convention. Groups began at various places around the city, including the regional office of the EPA and a pharmaceutical company headquarters, and headed for City Hall.

The top police priority was to keep them away from the Philadelphia Convention Center and the thousands at the biotech gathering.

The skateboarders were in town for "Wild in the Streets," a skateboarding festival. Love Park was famous nationwide in the skateboarding fraternity until the city banned them several years ago.
